Bronze Thai Buddha Trinket Box

This Thai Buddha trinket box depicts a many-armed Buddha sitting in the lotus position above a tiger's head. He holds tools in two of his hands, whilst another two hands rest in his lap. A cobra snake has his head raised alongside the Buddha with its body wrapped around the Buddha's chest. The Buddha figurine features many intricate details such as a string of beads around his neck, bangles, detailed hair and facial features.

The trinket box is painted in an aged brass-effect, with a bright red interior, and is heavy enough to be used as a paper-weight. The main body of the box has been moulded into the shape of a bed of lotus flowers with chrysanthemums and a weaving vine below. The base of the ornament is finished in a soft mole-skin so as to protect any surface upon which it is placed.

Guan Yin is the androgenous goddess of mercy who has taken both male and female forms across different cultures. She is believed to listen to the sounds of the world and cries for help from those in suffering. Guan Yin is a compassionate goddess that has ties with both Buddhism and Taoism and is sometimes depicted with many arms with which to help those in need. She provides unconditional love and is seen as a spiritual and physical saviour.
